Happy Monday! In today’s post, I discuss how I’ve been pushing myself outside my comfort zone lately and why I feel we all should aim to push ourselves in this way.
In general, this is something I’ve always done but it hasn’t always been easy. I had to push myself to do this over and over again because it isn’t something that comes naturally to me. Pushing myself means trying things I would never have tried otherwise, like attending game night, going on a guided tour on my own, or simply socialising with others out in public. (That still scares me sometimes!)
For some, meeting up with people you met through social media, taking yourself out on a date to a fancy restaurant with nothing but a book, or travelling alone to a foreign country might be things you would never ever do because they make you uncomfortable or afraid.
If you tell yourself you could never do something, you MUST push yourself to give it a try because pushing yourself outside your comfort zone always has benefits. You will definitely learn something from the experience and most likely you will find that it wasn’t so bad. Maybe you discover a new hobby, make a new friend, or figure out that it simply wasn’t for you. Even if you end up not liking an activity, at least you tried! This is how we grow. The more experiences we have, the more well-rounded we are.
Just imagine if we completely avoided the activities we fear. You’d never get anywhere!
And you don’t have to travel internationally to have these sorts of experiences. Research online for free events in your local area. Join Meetup groups or other groups on Facebook and push yourself to try new things. You never know what you’re missing until you try!
